As a very organised and time management conscious person, I wasn't satisfied with the offerings provided for sorting through my Uni subjects, course material and so on so within the first week of Uni, I made a super simple Google Sheets document that had my subjects and the material that was due for completion for each week.
It was an ugly thing but I shared it with other students who had given me a lot of really good feedback with a handful of them finding it really useful.
I knew I could do better though, so I started planning out a complete Uni subject planning system.
The intention is to have complete transparency over my courses subjects, the material in those subjects, my assessments, my GPA and so on.
There were a few things at front of mind that I knew I must adhere to;
- The system needs to be intuitive and easy to navigate
- An internal calendar and reminder system in place for students so they know what they should be going through each week for each subject
- A way to track progress and calculate what-if scores for subjects / assessments
- An easy way for students to contribute to the site and propose supplementary material that other students may find useful for a subject.
- A way to democratise supplementary material so students can upvote or downvote material (to determine the super crucial to the perhaps not so useful.
- Ensure Uni sensitive material (such as assessment material) is not on the site. Very important that this tool doesn't breach any University rules.
And so, my work began!
I don't have a clean name for this yet but so far, it's looking really good and has a lot of potential. I really do think students will find this superior to offerings on the market and if it helps just one student keep organised and on top of things, I've done my job.
